Why should the death penalty be abolished? The death penalty should be abolished for many reasons, many people believe in the saying "an eye for an eye" but when will people realise that just because someone may have killed a loved one doesn't mean that the person has to die also there are other serious punishments such as life in jail.
People don't realise that they are putting blood of another life on their hands this makes them just as Quilty as the person who committed the crime the only difference is that they didn't use weapons they used their mouth and opinion to kill them. Death penalty should be abolished because it is a cruel punishment.
When a defendant has been convicted of killing a while person the odds that the defendant will be executed by the state would be much higher. 85% of those who have been executed since 1976 were convicted for killing a white person. While only 13% were executed for killing a black person.
When will people realise that just because a person is of a different race that they are not more dangerous than another race for instance the 1972 Furman V. Georgia case abolished the death penalty for four years on grounds that capital punishment was extensive with racial inequalities.
Finally the death penalty should be abolished in my opinion because killing someone through the death penalty is just as bad as the crime they committed if not worse.
