For my nutrition project I’ve decided to look at the military diet, because in class we were learning about eat to eat after the gym and what the right food and right amounts that you need to be eating so I’ve decided to learn what a strict diet is like compared to what I’ve learned. What the military diet actually is: The Military diet is sometimes called the 3 Day Diet, because it must be followed for 3 days. The diet is split into two parts over a week. You follow the Military Diet for 3 days and then take 4 days off. But if you want to lose more weight over the long term, follow the Military Diet for a month and you can lose up to 30 pounds. This means doing the diet four times in a month, 3 days on, 4 days off. The Military Diet is a calorie restriction program. When you cut calories and create an energy deficit, your body burns fat as fuel and you lose weight. My opinion on the military diet: In my opinion the military diet seems to be a way to loose weight fast in an emergency but also means you aren’t meeting the amount of nutrients that are required for your body to function properly. What I learned in nutrition class: In the nutrition class we learnt that there is nothing more important than having three proper meals a day including all required nutrients such as carbohydrates, vegetables ,meats and fruits, this is what we all need for our body’s to function properly, we also need slow releasing foods such as sweet potato so that we get a long period of energy instead of eating sweets and getting a lot of energy and then crashing with tiredness. This is an example of the military diet:
Steroids that enhance your performance in sports. Some athletes take a form of steroids — known as anabolic-androgen steroids or just anabolic steroids — to increase their muscle mass and strength. The main anabolic steroid hormone produced by your body is testosterone. Testosterone has two main effects on your body anabolic effects promote muscle building. Testosterone has two main effects on your body:
Anabolic effects promote muscle building.
Androgenic effects are responsible for male traits, such as facial hair and a deeper voice.
Some athletes take straight testosterone to boost their performance. Frequently, the anabolic steroids that athletes use are synthetic modifications of testosterone. These hormones have approved medical uses, though improving athletic performance is not one of them. They can be taken as pills, injections or topical treatments. Men may develop:
Prominent breasts
Baldness
Shrunken testicles
Infertility
Impotence
Prostate gland enlargement
Women may develop:
A deeper voice
An enlarged clitoris
Increased body hair
Baldness
Infrequent or absent periods
Both men and women might experience:
Severe acne
Increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
Liver abnormalities and tumours
Increased low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol)
Decreased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol)
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Heart and circulatory problems
Aggressive behaviours, rage or violence
Psychiatric disorders, such as depression
Drug dependence
Infections or diseases such as HIV or hepatitis if you're injecting the drugs
