For my careers project I have chosen to research about psychology because I have a lot of interest in the course and after I did the career interest test this was one that kept coming up for me. My understanding of psychology: Psychology is the science of behaviour and mind, embracing all aspects of conscious and unconscious experience as well as thought. It is an academic discipline and a social science which seeks to understand individuals and groups by establishing general principles and researching specific cases. In this field, a professional practitioner or researcher is called a psychologist and can be classified as a social, behavioural, or cognitive scientist. Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behaviour, while also exploring the physiological and biological processes that underlie cognitive functions and behaviours. Psychologists explore behaviour and mental processes, including perception, attention, emotion, intelligence, motivation , brain functioning, and personality. This extends to interaction between people, such as personal relationships, including psychological resilience, family resilience, and other areas.
In Trinity collage for a course on psychology you need 555-577 points in the leaving cert and not all people get offered a place even if they get these points. The course is designed to develop a wide knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories and research methods of contemporary psychology to develop skills of analysis, research design, statistical description and evaluation, problem-solving and computer use to provide practice in the design, execution, reporting and assessment of research and to develop competence in group work, communication and presentation skills and self-assessment. This discipline demands clear, rigorous thinking, numeracy and the ability to define study and solve problems in complex, changing settings.
